When one has training in the academic aspects of art one can have a deeper appreciation of the genius behind what one is seeing.

Academic approaches to both doing and learning about art do not spoil the enjoyment of art--if those approaches are properly designed. Art history is a different kind of understanding--neither better nor worse than the less academic viewpoint. Academic approaches to studying art are only a detriment when students are asked to do art like someone else--rather than in their own way. In short--art enjoyment is only spoiled if the educational experience falls short.
